Sites covered by this privacy statement

This privacy statement applies to the information collected via this website only. It does not apply to any linked sites. To learn about the privacy policies of any linked sites, please refer to their own privacy policies.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Names and email addresses are collected when you submit a request to be contacted by us

Website usage information is collected using cookies, Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. This includes your IP address and country information, your browser information and the date and time you accessed the website. More information about cookies and Google Analytics, and how to change your settings, can be found below.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Cookies are small packets of information that websites store on your computer’s hard drive so that your computer will remember information about your visit. They do not contain any personal data, such as passwords. Our website may utilise cookies to enhance your experience when you visit. If you do not want our website to place a cookie on your hard drive, you may be able to turn that feature off on your computer. Please consult your internet browser’s documentation or visit About Cookies for information on how to disable cookies.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Analytics

We use third-party web analytics services on our website, such as those of Google Analytics. The analytics providers that administer these services use technologies such as cookies, web server logs and web beacons to help us analyse how visitors use the website. The information collected through these means (including IP address) is disclosed to these analytics providers, who use the information to evaluate use of the website. More information on what data is gathered, and how to opt out, can be found on the Google Analytics website.

Facebook Pixel

Occasionally, we may use the Facebook Pixel to assist with targeting of adverts. This helps to make sure the ads are targeted towards those who may find them interesting. In order to turn off this functionality, you can visit the Facebook Ad Preferences page and amend your settings.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How we use the information we obtain

We only use your email address to respond to your request or to contact you if there is a direct reason to do so.

We also use the information gathered to help diagnose technical or service issues on the website, to help identify users on our site, and to gather demographic information about our users.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell personal data about you. However, we may share information about your use of the site through analytics partner Google Analytics and social media platform Facebook, who perform services on our behalf. These third parties are not authorised by us to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Five Percent is committed to safeguarding the private information entrusted to us by our clients and visitors. We will never sell or trade your personal or financial information.

How you can update your personal information.

You may update personal information that you submitted to us, or ask for your information to be removed, by contacting us directly at hello@wearefivepercent.com.

Security

We are committed to providing a safe and secure online environment. To that end, we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect information, which comply with all applicable laws. We require independent contractors and other third parties who work with us to adhere to strict privacy standards through their contracts with us.
